Since the rafters are fixed to timber wall plates sitting on the head of the masonry wall then roof spread pushed out those wall plates in the process pushing out the masonry below.
Roof pushing out wall.
Once the rafters were loosen in the area then the ceiling joist attic floor joists would need to be loosened and then the wall would be moved back into position.
If installing a metal and rubber membrane roof install continuous flashing instead of step flashing.
Install step and kick out flashing to extend at least 4 inches above the roof deck along the wall.
Install roofing shingles and building wrap over flashing.
In my house we had this problem the living and dinning room walls were pushing out and the rafters were 2x6 s i removed the ceiling joists and we put in a 23 2x6 lvl beam and carried all of the roof and raised the ridge of the roof bring the walls in plumb after we removed the partions and opened the living room and dinning room to 18 x22 with 12 cathedral ceiling.
This can result in failure of the common rafters the ones that form the pitch of the roof and or the roof pushing out the walls and causing roof spread.
Without the proper support of rafter ties or a structural ridge a typical gable or sloped roof will sag downwards while pushing the building walls outwards towards a catastrophe.
Tape over the cut in the housewrap with housewrap tape.
Therefore the first signs of roof spread are often cracking bulging or leaning at the head of the masonry causing bowed walls.
Something else to look for in regards to roof spread is sag.
Roof spread cracks and pushing walls out.
The wall leg of the kickout should be applied over the housewrap cut a 2 ft square piece of housewrap and tuck one edge into the horizontal cut the same one the first piece of housewrap was slipped into and up under the housewrap on the wall by at least 5 in.
For example a gable end truss may be designed with support members that transmit the roof weight load outward to the side walls allowing the end wall directly below it to have breaks or openings in it that would otherwise be impossible.
Roof spread occurs when the principal rafters of the roof are not adequately supported causing them to open in a scissor like pattern.
Engineered roof truss systems may be designed to eliminate the need for load bearing walls or change where the bearing walls are located.
Roof spread occurs when there is a failure to adequately support the main rafters of the roof so as to prevent them spreading further open in a scissor type action.
We include sketches of collar ties rafter ties and structural ridge beams as well as illustrations of collapsing and collapsed structures where these roof rafter ties were lost or omitted.
Install roof felt prior to step and kick out flashing.
Replacement of slate or tile roof with a heavier concrete tile without adding strength to the roof structure.
